Animal Kingdom brings Avatar’s Pandora to Life

Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom brings the wondrous worlds of nature and technology together, teaching co-habitation and environmental awareness. Many people enjoy the combination of live animals in a zoo-like format with rollercoasters and top-quality stage shows, but the park has been criticized for not being time-consuming enough to fill up an entire day, leaving visitors wanting more and making this an indispensable park to visit on your Disney vacation.

What was Disney’s response to these complaints? An awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping, captivating new world within the park: a replica of Pandora, the land in which the popular film, Avatar takes place. Restaurants, rides and other attractions are in the works with construction beginning in 2013.

In the movie, Paraplegic soldier Jake Sully takes a mission on a distant alien world called Pandora. The mission reveals greedy intentions to rid the planet of the native “Na’vi” in order to mine for a prized material contained within the planets forests. Jake agrees to gather information as a spy from the Na’vi people by using an Avatar, a puppet-like substitute that looks like the alien race but is controlled remotely. Jake befriends the native tribe and falls in love with the Princess. The Military decides to be more aggressive with the extermination, causing an all-out war and forcing Jake and the Princess to fight for Pandora in an epic battle.

The press release for the project states: “AVATAR created a world which audiences can discover again and again and now, through this incredible partnership with Disney, we’ll be able to bring Pandora to life like never before. With two new AVATAR films currently in development, we’ll have even more locations, characters and stories to explore,”

The movie is famous for it’s use of CGI to create the environment of Pandora and its inhabitants completely digitally. So how will a world that was created completely on a computer with unprecedented beauty in its color and detail come to life in a real 3 dimensional format? With Disney magic and Imagineering, of course! The world is meant to be as realistic as possible and completely immersive. It’s no doubt that technology in the park will be groundbreaking and interactive as well. Disney World Vacations will just keep getting more interactive and amazing!

The expansion is expected to give visitors of Animal Kingdom “the chance to see, hear, and touch the world of AVATAR with an unprecedented sense of reality.”
