Disney World Orlando- Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant to host The Great Irish Hooley
Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant will be the host to Central Florida’s first Irish festival, celebrating Heritage through food, dance and music. The Great Irish Hooley will be taking place at Downtown Disney from August 31 to September 3.
Opened in 2005, Raglan Road is a restaurant in Downtown Disney. Looking to be as authentic as possible with the creation of the restaurant, they had the building itself built in Ireland and then shipped to its current location. Now that’s what I call dedication! All the furnishings and leaded glass ornaments are from Ireland as well. Nightly, the party inside can be heard throughout the area.
Based on a traditional Irish social celebration, this Disney World Orlando event will combine traditional Irish tunes with rock music, for a classic party atmosphere with a modern twist. There will be interactive fun for the whole family, including Irish Dance workshops for all ages and Celtic style face painting. Every night structured set dancing (known as the Ceili) will be accompanied by live bands and authentic Irish food and drink from a menu created by Kevin Dundon, an Irish celebrity chef. He was Ireland’s Chef of the Year in 2009 and has won many awards for his success. He has prepared meals for presidents, rock stars, movie stars, and more.
“Dundon is one of a handful of Irish Chefs capable of measuring up to contemporaries in Britain, France and America. His creative, imaginative cuisine has its roots in logic, common sense, craft skills of the highest order and a focus on raw materials of the highest quality.” Ernie Whalley, Editor, Food & Wine Magazine.
The long weekend’s loudest party begins at 5:00 p.m. on August 31 with top Irish bands and a troupe of top dancers. Some of the bands that will participate include:
- Full Set
- Elevation, (the U2 Tribute Band)
- Creel, (Raglan Road’s house band)
- The Raglan Rogues
- Danny Burns
- Johnny “Snaggs” Norton
