Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, “Christmas Lights” has a very different, brighter meaning. The yearly Osborne Family Lights tradition began in 1993 when an Arkansas businessman decorated his house with Christmas lights for his daughter, 6-year-old Breezy. Every year he added more lights, until it drew onlookers from all over Arkansas. But after it started disrupting traffic (and neighborhood residents), the “spectacle” was labeled illegal. After a local and Supreme Court battle, he was fined and almost jailed. However, the Walk Disney Company bought the lights in 1995, giving the lights a place to be put up and seen- and now a father’s gift to his daughter is put up brighter and better every year.

The lights dance to holiday music and ’snow’ falls gently through the air, creating the white Christmas of dreams. There are hidden Mickeys all over the area as well as light angels, messages, spinning trees, carousels, animals, and more. The lights dance about every 15 minutes- or once the snow temporarily stops. There is no time limit to walking around and viewing the lights, so take your time and enjoy the view.

The spectacle is free with admission to the park, and is definitely a holiday must-see! The Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights will be presented nightly until January 4, 2010. Times can be found out by checking with guest services.
