Magic Kingdom’s upcoming new Fantasyland plans are being redrawn even as the bulldozers are clearing land for the new expansion. The construction for Fantasyland has already made progress with mountains of dirt visible beyond the temporary construction walls inside Magic Kingdom. Under new Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman, Tom Staggs, designers are revising the plans, which were originally focused on attractions centered around the Disney princesses. However, Staggs would not release any specific details about the changes. He said that Disney would reveal them “in due course” and that the changes are “improving it on the margin.”
Original plans were for an extensively themed indoor ride for The Little Mermaid, three interactive princess greeting areas, a Beauty and the Beast themed restaurant, a Dumbo attraction for smaller children, and a fairies themed area.
Rasulo announced Disney’s expansion plans for Fantasyland 11 months ago at a convention in Anaheim, California. Rasulo is now CFO while Staggs is head of the theme-park division, as deemed by Disney President and Chief Executive Officer, Bob Iger.
“We had a number of different people look at it and say, ‘Is it accomplishing what we want to from a guest experience standpoint? Is it accomplishing that in a way that is operationally great? Is it as broad as it can be in its appeal?’” said Staggs. “The answer is, it largely did. But we thought we could continue to play with it and make it better.”
With everything Magic Kingdom already has to offer, it’s looking like guests will need even more time to experience all of the magic of Disney’s Magic Kingdom.
