The biggest reason that
Disney’s Contemporary Resort is one of the more
popular Disney resorts is that it is located
just a short walk away from the front doors of
Disney’s Magic Kingdom theme park. The second
reason is its design- the monorail system, which
has a stop at the Contemporary Resort as well as
Epcot and several Disney hotels- literally
passes through the lobby itself, which has a
unique A shape (the Contemporary Tower). There
is also a garden wing annex. The rooms in
the14-story tower, designed by Walt Disney and
Welton Becket, were constructed off-site and
later put in place using a crane. The entire
resort has a modern, futuristic feel, and
features a 90-foot Mary Blair mural that goes
from the floor to the ceiling. The resort boasts
magnificent views of Cinderella Castle, Bay
Lake, the Seven Seas lagoon, and Space Mountain.

The resort
offers award-winning food at the famous
California Grill; though it has a pretty hefty
price tag, with meals starting at $60, the 15th-floor
restaurant has a spectacular view of Magic
Kingdom’s fireworks and a wide variety of dishes
for every taste bud. Guests can also go to Chef
Mickey’s for buffet-style breakfast and dinner
and get a hug from Mickey and friends as
monorails soar overhead. There are other dining
options as well.
The resort also
offers the Electrical Water Pageant, which
floats on Bay Lake most nights (depending on the
weather) at 10:10 PM. There is a white sand
beach, two arcades, Disney movies shown outdoors
by the beach or pool, the Olympiad Fitness
Center, and two pools- one features a
17-foot-tall curving slide, while the second
pool is a quiet pool. There are two hot tubs
next to the pools and a wading pool for smaller
children. There is also a variety of activities,
such as tubing, wakeboarding, waterskiing, and
watercraft rentals available. Don’t worry about
finding souvenirs- there are seven shops located
at the resort as well.
