Disney’s Port Orleans Resort is divided into two
sections, each one its own ‘resort.’ The
Riverside was built and decorated based on an
older rural South along the Mississippi river,
with steamboats, plantain mansions, and
bayou
villages in the country. The Riverside has 16
bayou and 4 mansion style buildings. The Sassagoula River flows through the resort
itself, adding to its theme. There are magnolias
lining the riverside walkways and leading up to
Magnolia Bend, which houses the mansion
buildings. These feature columns, grand
staircases, and
white railings. The Alligator
Bayou offers two-story Cajun
brick or stucco
lodges with rough hewn railings, tin roofs, and
wide front porches. Behind them are pine forests
and creeks.

A standard Riverside room offers two double
beds, a
table and chairs, a vanity area with two
sinks, a ceiling fan, a curtain between the
vanity and the room, a safe, high speed internet
(for a fee), and a crib available through
Housekeeping. The king bedrooms offer the same
things, with a king bed instead of two double
beds.
Hungry? You can grab a bite to eat at the
Riverside Mill food court, have a casual
sit-down meal at Boatwright’s Dining Hall, or
have a drink in the River Roost Lounge. Distract
the kids at the Medicine Show Arcade. There are
6 heated pools on the property, including the pool
complex on Ol' Man Island. The resort also
offers a fishing hole (catch and release only)
and a
playground on the Ol’ Man Island, which can be
reached by bridge.
The Riverside offers a free cruise down to
Disney’s Downtown Disney Marketplace; the trip
takes about half an hour. There are also buses
that take guests there and to other Disney areas, such as
the theme parks and water parks. |
