When is more convenient to stay off-Disney?
Staying onsite on
Disney's properties has many benefits, but it doesn't
always the most convenient way to enjoy all that Orlando
has to offer;
What if your park
choices are not all Disney; After all, Orlando has many
other parks to offer, including Universal Studios and
Universal’s Islands of Adventure® (with the new Harry Potter area);
Sea World and Sea World's Aquatica Water Park and
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay; These other theme
parks will attract more teenagers looking for roller
coasters (although all parks are offering something to
everybody), and more state of the art rides (like
Universal theme parks). If you choose to stay at a
Disney resort you'll be paying too much for certain
privileges (see

Disney hotel or resort?) that you will not be able to use.
Disney is not cheap!
The least expensive option at Disney is equivalent to a
2.5 start hotel in terms of accommodations and there is
nothing else nearby. If you have a big family you could
get a lot more hotel, including kitchenettes (or full
kitchens and some privacy) for the same or little more
money.
Other Hotel perks: If
you're not using Disney's dining plans (they're not for
everybody and not useful if you're going to other parks
besides Disney's) you could get a whole range of
options, from free continental breakfast to full hot
breakfast, transportation to all the theme parks
(although at a fixed, not so flexible schedule) , etc.
for less than a basic Disney hotel. Note that,
even a mini-fridge, standard on many hotels, is a
$10/day charge at Disney Value Resorts.
Near other things to
do; although we do not expect you will have too much
time besides the theme parks, being outside Disney will
provide many choices for shopping (shopping at outlet
mall with prestigious firms is almost an sport here in
Orlando) and also for eating at an affordable price.
Food in Orlando is not expensive and there are many
chains and specialty restaurants located near the main
tourist areas, from the typical fast food joint to high
end Seafood, Meat and Sushi restaurants.
