Marvel Super Hero Island
The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man
Minimum Height to Ride: 40 inches
Universal Express: Yes
Thrills: 5/5
This is a ride
you must not miss when you visit Islands of Adventure! On this
ride, you get to travel with Spider-Man to save the city. Before
you board the vehicle for the ride, you get 3D glasses to wear
because all of the video screens are in 3D, that means
Spider-Man and villains are all in 3D too. The way the ride
vehicle moves in response to the ride videos with spinning and
other motions earns this ride a 5 out of 5 on our thrill scale.
Don't worry though; it's still great for the kids, elementary
school age and up.
Spider-Man used to be rated the number one ride in the entire
world until Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey opened,
that's how good this ride is. When people ask us what they have
to do at Universal Orlando, this is one of the first rides I
mention. It's fun, thrilling, but it's not too intense for kids,
which means the whole family can ride together.
Tip: If you want to skip the line and don't mind being split up
from others in your party there is a single riders line for the
ride. The single riders line usually opens up when the regular
line is over a 30 minute wait. Remember, by going in this line,
it means you will be split up from your party.
Doctor Doom's Fearfall
Minimum Height to
Ride: 52 inches
Universal Express: Yes
Thrills: 5/5
This is a ride to avoid if you're afraid of heights. This ride
shoots you up 150 feet in the air, which is very thrilling, but
also offers an amazing view of Universal Orlando Resort and even
some of Orlando. You're then forced back down faster than
gravity and go up and down a couple more times. It's an open
vehicle so you can feel the wind rush by and get a clear view
all around you. This is a top ride for thrills and one of my
favorites.
If you're afraid of heights, it's best to skip this one. But if
you love thrills and want an awesome view, definitely ride
Doctor Doom's Fearfall.
Tip: If you want to skip the line and don't mind being split up
from others in your party there is a single riders line for the
ride. The single riders line usually opens up when the regular
line is over a 30 minute wait. Remember, by going in this line,
it means you will be split up from your party.
Storm Force Accelatron
Minimum Height to Ride: None
Universal Express: Yes
Thrills: 2/5
Help the X-Men save the world on this spinning ride. For this
ride, you board teacup-like €śpods€ť that seat up to 5 people.
Once the ride starts, the platform spins and you can spin your
vehicle by turning the wheel in the center. It's somewhat
similar to the teacups at Disney World, but these have more leg
room, plus they can spin faster. If you enjoy spinning and
making yourself dizzy, check this ride out. If you easily get
sick from spinning, you might want to sit it out. But, if you
can handle the teacups at Disney World, you can handle these.
Incredible Hulk Coaster
Minimum Height to Ride: 54 inches
Universal Express: Yes
Thrills: 5/5
This is one of Islands of Adventure's most popular rides because
of the thrills it offers for roller coaster fans. This massive
roller coaster is loud and probably one of the first things
you'll see when you enter the park. One of the reasons this is
one of my favorite rides at Islands of Adventure is because of
the take-off at the beginning. This roller coaster shoots out of
the tunnel going from 0 to 40 mph in just 2 seconds. If you like
roller coasters definitely go on this one!
This is the #1 roller coaster at Islands of Adventure, so you
can't miss it if you're a roller coaster junkie. The launch at
the beginning is intense and so awesome all at the same time. I
like the front row for the views from the coaster while high
above the ground, but back row give the most intense, thrilling
ride. The choice is yours.
Tip: If you want to skip the line and don't mind being split up
from others in your party there is a single riders line for the
ride. The single riders line usually opens up when the regular
line is over a 30 minute wait. Remember, by going in this line,
it means you will be split up from your party.
Tip: Sit in the front row for views of Islands of Adventure, but
be aware, there is an extra wait to sit in the front row. Back
row is my favorite because it's a more intense ride.
Toon Lagoon
Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls
Minimum Height to Ride: 44 inches
Universal Express: Yes
Thrills: 4/5
Plan to get soaked on this ride (commonly known as Ripsaw
Falls). This is one of three rides at Islands of Adventure that
will likely get you soaked! This is a very fun ride, and the
most popular wet rides in the park. The real thrills on this
ride come from the twists and turns and the big plunge towards
the end of the ride. During the summer the lines for this ride
can get very long, so it's best to avoid this line in the early
afternoon if you want to avoid lines.
Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges
Minimum Height to Ride: 42 inches
Universal Express: Yes
Thrills: 3.5/5
Popeye is another wet ride at Islands of Adventure that is very
popular. It's basically a river rapids ride in a round vehicle
that can spin in the water. How wet you get on this ride depends
on where you sit and how the €śboat€ť moves; sometimes you just
get splashed, other times you get completely drenched. I love
this ride because of how unpredictable it is and how the boat
spins and bumps around. To be honest, it's my personal favorite
of the 3 water rides at Islands of Adventure because I always
seem to get drenched when I go on. And isn't that the point of
going on water rides?
Me Ship, the Olive
Minimum Height: None
Universal Express: No (no line)
Thrills: 1/5
This isn't a ride, but more of a children's playground. It's
very interactive for kids, and they can even shoot water at
people riding the Popeye ride below them. Great for smaller kids
who want something to do in this area of Islands of Adventure.
Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park River Adventure
Minimum Height: 42 inches
Universal Express: Yes
Thrills: 3/5
Based on the famous movie, this ride takes you through the world
of Jurassic Park and is the third Islands of Adventure wet ride.
Most of the ride moves at a slow pace so it's not motion intense
until the drop at the end. You do see lots of dinosaurs that
have escaped from their cages, so it may be scary for small
children, but most everyone will be okay with this ride. How wet
you get on this ride depends on where you sit, middle rows tend
to be the driest. I love this ride because you do feel like
you're touring the world of Jurassic Park.
Jurassic Park Discovery Center
Minimum Height: None
Universal Express: No (no line)
Thrills: 1/5
This interactive center is great for the whole family as there's
no minimum height, and no rides to scare the little kids. There
are several interactive activities to do and learn about
dinosaurs, so kids love it. Plus, it's a nice, cool escape from
the heat.
Camp Jurassic
Minimum Height: None
Universal Express: No (no line)
Thrills: 1/5
Camp Jurassic is the ultimate pay area for kids. There is net
climbing, slides and so much more so kids of all ages love it
here, even teens. For the parents who want to relax while their
kids play, there is only one entrance/exit with tons of seating
areas in front of it. This way you can see exactly who enters
and leaves, so your kids can't sneak past you.
Pteranodon Flyers
Height to Ride: Under 56 inches
Universal Express: No
Thrills: 2/5
This ride is actually designed with kids in mind. This ride is
unique because you must have a child to ride with if you are
over 56 inches tall. The line for this line can get ridiculously
long and there's no Express to skip the regular line; go first
thing in the morning or right before it closes. If you are
afraid of heights, you might want to avoid this ride because you
travel in an open vehicle in the air.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Flight of the Hippogriff
Minimum Height: 36 inches
Universal Express: Yes
Thrills: 3/5
For many kids, this is the perfect start to riding roller
coasters. There are no loops, but the swerves and dips on this
ride make it a lot of fun (even if you're not a kid). Kids
really love this as it's the perfect dose of roller coaster
thrill for them.
Adults, you'll actually probably enjoy this too; everyone I know
does. It's a nice mild thrill that helps you feel like a child
again. Give it a try, I bet you'll enjoy it too.
Dragon Challenge
Minimum Height: 54 inches
Universal Express: Yes
Thrills: 5/5
This is Islands of Adventure's other major thrill ride and
actually features 2 different coaster tracks. You should try
both sides: Hungarian Horntail and Chinese Fireball (blue and
red) as the coasters are different and are 2 different thrill
experiences. This tends to have much lower wait times than the
Hulk roller coaster too, so you won't have to wait as long for
this ride usually.
Because there are 2 different coasters, you really need to ride
both because they are different. The red one is a bit faster,
but the blue one has more loops. Definitely ride both and decide
which one is your favorite.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
Minimum Height: 48 inches
Universal Express: No
Thrills: 5/5
This is without a doubt, the best ride at Islands of Adventure.
Even non Harry Potter fans talk about how much they love this
ride. Brand new ride technology was used for this ride, which
means you've never been on anything like this before. Harry
Potter and the Forbidden Journey has now become the #1 rated
ride in the world and once you ride, you'll understand why. This
took my breath away as a theme park and Harry Potter fan, no
other theme park ride compares to this.
There are some sudden movements and motion on this ride and
there are a few cases of people becoming ill from motion
sickness, but even if you don't want to ride, you should
definitely walk through the line just to see the amazing detail.
There's nothing like walking the halls of Hogwarts before going
on the ride. Be sure to watch the oil paintings too!
Tip: If you want to skip the line and don't mind being split up
from others in your party there is a single riders line for the
ride. Remember, by going in this line, it means you will be
split up from your party. It's not well marked, so ask one of
the witches or wizards working there where it is located. But
remember, you will be split up from family or friends at the
ride.
Seuss Landing
The High in the Sky Trolley Train Ride
Minimum Height: 34 inches
Universal Express: Yes
Thrills: 1/5
This slow moving ride is great for kids as you get to take a
tour of Seuss Landing up in the air, with an amazing view of
Islands of Adventure. Children between 34-48 inches must ride
with an adult on this ride. It's definitely a nice break from
walking around the parks.
I'm a fan of this ride because it's a nice break from the hustle
and bustle of theme parks, plus it really is fun to see
everything up in the air at a pace you can enjoy instead of
everything being a blur.
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
Minimum Height: None
Universal Express: Yes
Thrills: 1/5
This is a €śDumbo€ť like ride where you can control how high your
fish goes as you fly in a circle. Be careful though, water
shoots out from various spots on the base of the ride, so you
might get wet. Another great ride for kids. No minimum height,
but kids under 48 inches tall must ride with an adult.
Caro-Seuss-el
Minimum Height: None
Universal Express: Yes
Thrills: 1/5
This is your everyday carousel, but themed after the books by
Dr. Seuss. Always fun for the family to enjoy a slower paced
ride once in a while, and there's nothing better than a
carousel. Some of the animals are stationary while others move
up and down. No minimum height, but kids under 48 inches tall
must ride with an adult.
The Cat in the Hat
Minimum Height: None
Universal Express: Yes
Thrills: 2/5
Follow the story of The Cat in the Hat and you swerve and spin
on this wonderful kids ride. You'll spin and spin all through
the story and the detail in this ride is incredible. It's such a
fun ride, even adults come off laughing. People of all ages love
this ride, from kids to adults. It's tons of fun and you
definitely shouldn't miss it. No minimum height, but kids under
48 inches tall must ride with an adult.
Tip: There is a lot of spinning, so avoid riding this right
after lunch.
